IMS Core — Carrier-Grade Voice and Messaging over IP
The IMS Core delivers a standardized, scalable and interoperable platform for multimedia services over IP networks. It enables voice and messaging over IP, ensuring interoperability, convergence of services and efficient session control — while strengthening security through authentication and encryption.
As part of Summa Networks’ modular Full Core network approach, the IMS Core can be adopted as a whole platform or function by function, letting operators evolve at their own pace and avoid vendor lock-in through a multi-vendor strategy — with carrier-grade VoLTE, VoWiFi WiFi Calling, VoNR for 5G Standalone and seamless SRVCC voice continuity between LTE and 2G/3G, all interworking over standard 3GPP reference points.
Built Kubernetes-native from the ground up, the platform deploys on any cloud, container orchestration or hybrid environment.
Ten standards-based components — deploy the whole platform or one at a time
First IMS contact point for devices, securing access and proxying signalling into the core.
Routes initial requests, querying the HSS to select the serving CSCF.
The core signalling anchor: registration, authentication and service routing.
Delivers MMTEL features: forwarding, hold, waiting, transfer, conference, barring.
Bridges IMS and SMS so one number works over IMS or the CS domain.
Voice continuity (SRVCC) between LTE/VoLTE and 2G/3G.
Secure WiFi Calling (VoWiFi), bridging WiFi devices via encrypted tunnels.
Central subscriber database for authentication and authorization.
Manages QoS, charging and resource policies for multimedia services.
Resolves E.164 numbers to SIP URIs and next-hop addresses for the CSCFs.
Built for how voice networks actually evolve
Every function is standards-compliant, cloud-native and designed to give operators full control over voice quality and evolution.
Modular & flexible
Adopt the whole platform or one function at a time — evolve at your own pace, with no vendor lock-in.
Standardized architecture
Seamless service delivery across networks and devices, over standard 3GPP reference points.
Voice continuity (SRVCC)
Seamless handover of live voice calls between LTE/VoLTE and 2G/3G domains.
VoWiFi / VoLTE
Carrier-grade voice and data over WiFi and LTE, under the same subscriber identity.
Security
IPsec, IMS-AKA and trust-boundary controls safeguard every session and subscriber’s data.
Scalability
Suited to networks of every size, from small deployments to large-scale carriers.
Kubernetes-native
Deploys on Kubernetes, any cloud, or a hybrid environment — no rearchitecting to move.
VoNR-ready
The same IMS Core that carries VoLTE and VoWiFi today extends to VoNR for 5G Standalone voice.
How it fits into your network
Every interface follows the relevant 3GPP specification — Cx, Sh, Rx, SGd, SWm and S2b among them — so the IMS Core integrates cleanly with your existing HSS, policy function, SMSC and Evolved Packet Core, regardless of vendor.
What you can build on IMS Core
- VoLTE — high-quality voice over LTE through the TAS and IMS control plane.
- Rich Communication Services — advanced messaging with group chat and file sharing.
- Fixed-Mobile Convergence — unifies fixed-line and mobile services into one experience.
- Unified Communications — voice, messaging and conferencing on a single platform.
- VoWiFi — voice calls over WiFi via the ePDG, extending coverage indoors.
- VoNR — native voice over 5G Standalone, on the same IMS Core as VoLTE and VoWiFi.
- Voice Continuity (SRVCC) — live calls move seamlessly between LTE/VoLTE and 2G/3G.
- Emergency Services & Multi-Device — enhanced emergency communication across devices.
